Laptop App

Follow a dyno's runs live, its last result, and its history from the laptop.

When Laptop runs, Dyno adds a Dyno app to it. Nothing needs installing: it registers as either resource starts, and Dyno works the same without the laptop. Turn it off with Config.Settings.dyno.laptop.enabled = false.

On Facade, Lumen, and Solace, players download Dyno from the app store first, under Utilities. See The App Store.

The app only reads: it can't start or stop a run.

#Dynos

The app lists the dynos the player's job may use, with their name, what they are doing, free or the car running on it, and their last result. A player whose job may use none doesn't get the app.

#Connecting

The player picks a dyno and connects. The server decides, from the dyno's jobs, or Config.Settings.dyno.jobs, and from laptop.range, the metres the player at the laptop may stand from the dyno. nil allows any distance. Dynos out of range are listed but can't be connected to. Every request checks again that the player is at a laptop and still may connect.

#Saved Dynos

Each character remembers the dynos they connected to, kept in the zyke_dyno_saved table by the dyno's position, so they survive restarts and newly placed dynos.

  • The last 10 without a name are kept; renamed ones stay until forgotten.
  • The app opens straight on the dyno the character was last connected to, as long as they still may connect to it.
  • Saved dynos are listed first, each with a Forget button.
  • Disconnecting goes back to the list, and the app opens on the list until the character connects again.

#Renaming

The pencil beside the connected dyno's name gives it a name of up to 32 characters that only that character sees, in the header and the list, with the dyno's own name under it. An empty name gives the dyno its own name back. Forgetting a dyno forgets its name too. Other players still see the dyno's own name.

#Tabs

TabWhat it shows
LiveWhile a run is on, the graph of power and torque against rpm draws as the car pulls, with the rpm, power, torque, peaks, roller speed, throttle, gear, and phase, over the car's last and first runs. A laptop that connects halfway gets the run so far.
ResultThe dyno's last result sheet, with the same numbers as the printed sheet.
HistoryThe recent runs on the dyno. Open one for its sheet and every run of that car.

Runs are kept by the dyno they ran on, by its position, so a dyno keeps its history as long as it stands on the same spot.
