Running the Shredder

Fuel, start, load, and empty a shredder.

Each machine has interaction spots on its infeed, control pedestal, status screen, bin, recipe clipboard, and generator. Aim at a spot and press E.

#Fuel the Generator

Use a diesel_can to take it out and carry it. Aim at the generator's filler and pour. Pouring stops when the tank is full, the can is empty, or you cancel. Leftover diesel stays in the can, and its durability bar shows how full it is. Use the can again, press X, or right-click to put it away.

Check the fuel gauge to see the tank level. With generator.requireFuel = false, the generator needs no fuel and has no filler interaction.

#Start & Stop

Use the control pedestal to start or stop the shredder. Starting needs diesel. The machine stops by itself when the line has been empty for idleStopSeconds, the tank runs dry, or the cutters overheat.

The status screen shows the machine state, cutter heat, diesel, bin fill, and the parts on the line. Aim at it to take a closer look.

#Load Parts

Aim at the loading end of the infeed to open the loading menu. It lists every item you carry that has a recipe. Parts can be loaded whether the machine is running or not. Each goes onto the flight at the loading point, or the next free one within reach.

The same menu lists your parts still on the infeed, or everyone's with a shared bin. A part taken off returns to your inventory unchanged.

Loading is refused while the line holds maxLoads parts or no flight within reach is free.

#Heat & Jams

Every piece of scrap cut adds heat. At overheat.limit, the thermal cutout stops the machine with its parts in place, the warning lamp lights, and smoke rises from the hopper. It cannot restart until it has cooled to overheat.resumeAt.

Now and then, a part jams. The cutters reverse briefly to free it, then carry on.

#Empty the Bin

A part only enters the cutters once the bin has room for its output. Until then, the infeed holds the part at the top and no more parts can be loaded.

Aim at the bin to take one kind of scrap or everything. Anything that does not fit in your inventory stays in the bin. With bin.shared = false, each character collects only their own scrap.
